Red Sox vs. Mariners August 3, 2007 Game 1

The hated Boston Red Sox are in town for the weekend. Last time they were here the Mariners swept’em out of town.

Tonight it’s Puyallup’s own Jonathan Lester (1-0, 4.26) against Horiaco Ramirez (6-3, 6.52). Lester is a great story. He battled and beat cancer. It must have took incredible strength to not get down and ask “Why me?” In your early twenties to get diagnosed with cancer had to be devastating. Congratulations John, you beat it!

Hopefully Ramirez can continue to pitch well at home where he’s 6-0 with a 2.63 ERA. On the road this year he’s 0-3 with a 13.72 ERA, quite a difference. The Mariners need to take 2 of 3 again this series. The Indians are faltering, but the Yankees are getting hot. The Angels beat Oakland last night to extend their division lead to 3-1/2 games. This looks like the easiest game to win of the series so the Mariners need to take advantage.
